Diaper Malfunction

This is a warning that the content of this particular blog is pretty graphic. If you're not into seeing baby poop, skip this entry and come back tomorrow. If you're still intrigued, read on...

Yesterday morning, I had a conversation with a friend debating which diaper brand was the best. I said I was a Pampers girl because in our limited experience, we didn't get really bad diaper blowouts with the brand. Even though Pampers is slightly more expensive than the other brands, Mike and I feel it's worth it if we have less leakage. You would've thought I was sponsored by Pampers the way I was extolling it's virtues.

This morning, Pampers failed me. I went to change Grace's diaper and this is what I found:

And as I was trying to figure out the best way to get her clothes off without further contaminating my child, this was her reaction:

She thought the whole thing was hilarious! She was smiling and cooing the entire time.

I apologize if anyone found this offensive, but you were forewarned. I felt I had to document the experience for Mike since he wasn't here to share in the moment.

Several Questions....
1. Did you salvage the onesie or throw it away?
2. Did you end up giving her a full bath after the explosion?
3. Have you been pooped on yet?
4. Where did she do this?
5. Did poop get on that (#4) too?

Ya know, IMHO, the poop shoots out faster than it can be absorbed. James likes to blame the diaper, but sometimes, I just don't think it's always the diaper to blame. Sometimes, it's user error - like not pulling out the edges or sitting the kiddo at a funky angle.

This reminds me of several SNL skits about diapers... The diaper thong and the diaper you only change once a week...or is it month?

Jojo,

1. I always try to salvage first- soak in hot, soapy water, and 2 cycles through the washing machine.
2. Absolutely had to give her a bath.
3. Nope, but I'm sure my time will come.
4. She was sitting in her bouncy.
5. Nope, but she has before during a previous diaper blowout.

This actually wasn't the worst blowout she's had, but before, we were so frantic about getting her cleaned right away that we forgot to document.
I guess I have enough diaper blowout experience that I can now keep my cool.
