Before Mike showed up in my life, my BFF Josyl and I joked that we could write a book entitled “Our Misadventures in Love” because some of our experiences were just so darn comical. Many nights were spent eating ice cream, watching sappy movies, and wondering when the right man was going to come along, if ever.
Then I met Mike and everything became very clear, very quickly. I knew right away he was ‘the one’. I know it sounds so cliché, but it’s true. I heard a saying once that went, “It’s only a cliché until it happens to you.” I completely agree.
When we couldn’t be together, we’d talk for hours on the phone, sacrificing sleep for conversation. He could make me laugh like no other! He was sweet, thoughtful, and romantic. He was a true gentleman, which I didn’t even think existed anymore after all my misadventures in love.
He didn’t mind that I was a bit on the old-fashioned side, and all the things about me that would have driven a normal guy crazy, he actually found endearing. I once told him that before I could go out with him, he had to ask permission from my dad. This coming from a woman who had a career, lived on her own, had a mortgage, and was in her mid-twenties. I was joking, of course, but he didn’t realize that and instead of freaking out, and without skipping a beat, he immediately asked for details on how he should go about doing that properly.
I loved that he was passionate about his work, was ambitious, and had a plan for his life. And thankfully, his plan eventually evolved to include me. I think we both knew pretty early on that we were headed in that direction, but to prevent scaring my family to death, he waited a respectable time before asking for my hand.
Our wedding day was filled with so many things that didn’t go as smoothly as planned. But I didn’t even care. I went into that day expecting things to veer off the path of perfection. As long as Mike was standing there waiting for me at the altar, there was a priest present so we could exchange our vows, and we left the church as husband and wife- that would be enough for me. Now that I had found the guy of my dreams, I couldn’t wait to become his bride and start our future together.

So here I am four years later and all those hopes I had on our wedding day are being realized. He still makes me feel like a new bride. My heart still skips a beat when I see his name in my email inbox or his number pops up on my cell. He spoils me every chance he gets. He works hard to provide a good life for his family where I can stay home with our baby. He knows how to keep the romance alive, even when we're apart (His love letter writing skills are phenomenal).
I could go on and on and on, but I’ll stop now before anyone gets sick. I’ll just end with this- I am truly blessed to be living the life of my dreams, with a great man by my side.
